چکیده

Materials and method The static range of ankle joint dorsiflexion was measured with the knee flexed and extended (n=100). Dynamic foot kinematics were measured for the tibia, calcaneus, midfoot, lateral forefoot, medial forefoot and hallux, and 13 parameters derived to characterise foot kinematics (right foot only). The relationship between static range of ankle joint dorsiflexion and sagittal plane motion within the foot during walking was examined using Pearsons correlation. An independent t-test (p<0.05) was used to compare dynamic foot kinematics in subjects exhibiting <10° and >15° of static ankle joint dorsiflexion (n=83, n=7 knee extended, n=40, n=23 knee flexed).

The Relationship Between Muscle Strength and Range of Motion in Lower Extremity, and Balance and Risk of Falling in the Elderly

Background: The present study examined the relationship between muscle strength and range of motion in the lower extremity, and balance and risk of falling in the elderly. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on healthy elderly (mean±SD age: 65.64±4.95 y) in Rasht City, Iran. The study participants were 65 healthy male elderly who met the stud inclusion criteria. They were selecte...

The Effect of Thera-Band Resistive Exercises on Pain, Dynamic Balance, and Function of Amateur Teenage Basketball Players

Aims and background: With respect to the prevalence of ankle injuries due to the decrease in range of motion of dorsiflexion, and to the lack of proper function in foot and/or lack of balance among basketball players, utilizing exercise plans is of great importance. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effect of eight weeks of thera-band exercises on the range of motion on pain...

Design and Evaluation of an Articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis with Plantarflexion Resistance on the Gait: a Case Series of 2 Patients with Hemiplegia

Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) have been described to have positive effects on the gait biomechanics in stroke patients. The plantarflexion resistance of an AFO is considered important for hemiplegic patients, but the evidence is still limited. The purpose of this case series was to design and evaluate the immediate effect of an articulated AFO on kinematics and kinetics of lower-limb joints in str...

بررسی تأثیر ارتزهای مچ پا-پایی بر متغیرهای راه‌رفتن و تعادل افراد سکته مغزی: مطالعه مروری

Objective Stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is either interrupted or reduced. The clinical presentation varies from minor neurological symptoms to severe deficits, depending on the location and the size of the brain lesion. Hemiparesis is one of the most striking features in the acute phase. Many other deficits may also be present, including postural imbalance. All persistent ...

Is there a relationship between static and dynamic ankle joint dorsiflexion during gait in people with a history of neuropathic ulceration?

Background The inclusion of limited joint mobility (LJM) as a risk factor for plantar neuropathic foot ulceration in diabetes is interspersed throughout the literature. This is commonly believed to occur through connective tissue thickening and stiffening, thereby reducing available static and dynamic motion below that required for normal foot function. High underfoot pressures are postulated t...
